NEW ORLEANS — When it came to the final minutes of the D-League All-Star Game, Western Conference head coach Coby Karl simply turned to the three players who got him there in the first place.
The D-Fenders coach put in his players — Josh Magette, Vander Blue and Justin Harper — who nearly rallied their squad back from an 11-point deficit. Magette and Blue hit a 3-pointer and layup, respectively, to bring the deficit to one in the final two minutes.
However, the East recovered behind MVP Quinn Cook (18 points, 12 assists) and came away with a 105-100 win at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Harper — who also played in last year’s All-Star game — led his team in scoring with 17 points, including three 3-pointers and a fast-break dunk.
Meanwhile, Blue finished with 15 points in his third consecutive trip to the D-League’s midseason exhibition, while Magette recorded 11 points and seven assists in his All-Star debut.
