The South Bay Lakers are only a couple months away from their new home, as the UCLA Health Training Center prepares to open this summer in El Segundo.
The South Bay court — which will serve as the site of home games — has been laid down and is nearly ready to host crowds of 750 people, more than double the capacity of their previous facility.
South Bay will share the 120,000-square foot arena with its parent club, the Los Angeles Lakers, as both teams will use it as their training site.
The South Bay Lakers will have their own training area for workouts and recovery, as well as their own players’ lounge.
General Manager Nick Mazzella has expressed excitement about how the facility will improve South Bay’s game atmosphere.
“To have bleachers, better food accommodations, food trucks that are going to be outside and a whole exhibition entrance, it’s just going to make things a lot better,” Mazzella said during initial construction. “It’s going to be more of a true game atmosphere.”
