Vander Blue has been scorching right when the Lakers needed him most, as his 17-point night helped lift Los Angeles past Dallas in Sunday’s Summer League semifinals.
Blue also dished out six assists against the previously 10-0 Mavericks, with his best one coming in a moment of truth for the Lakers.
Dallas had cut L.A.’s once-26-point lead down to one with two minutes remaining when Alex Caruso hit a pair of free throws for some breathing room.
Blue then used his trademark slashing ability to get to the hoop before beaming a cross-court pass to Matt Thomas, who sunk a corner 3-pointer.
Caruso added five points and three assists in the Lakers’ 108-98 win, while Travis Wear had four points.
Blue — who is averaging 20.7 points in his last three games — will now look to celebrate his 25th birthday by helping the Lakers to the Summer League title against Portland on Monday at 7 p.m. PT.
With Lonzo Ball out due to a mild calf strain, Caruso will likely get the starting nod at point guard. He thrived in his only other start of Summer League, providing 18 points, nine assists and four steals in last Monday’s win over Sacramento.
