D-Fenders Downed in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Los Angeles D-Fenders fell to the Oklahoma City Blue on Saturday at the Cox Convention Center, 106-86, snapping the team’s five-game win streak.

Los Angeles (24-7) was led by 18 points and 11 rebounds from Jeff Ayres, who notched his sixth double-double of the season. Travis Wear also contributed 18 points, adding six rebounds, one steal and one block off of the bench. Josh Magette (17 points, five rebounds, two assists) and Vander Blue (10 points, four rebounds, five assists) were the team’s only other double-digit scorers in a night that was characterized by offensive struggles.

Oklahoma City (22-10) enjoyed a pair of double-double performances from Dakari Johnson (26 points, 13 rebounds) and Daniel Hamilton (17 points, 12 rebounds), while Thunder assignee Josh Huestis recorded 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Reggie Williams (18 points) and Dez Wells (10 points) also scored in double figures.

The D-Fenders never led in the contest, recording season lows with 86 points, 34 made field goals and a shooting percentage of 37 percent from the field.

Trailing from the onset of Saturday’s contest, L.A. was behind by only six points at halftime, 54-48. But the Blue put together a series of runs in the third frame, even scoring 11 consecutive points that was part of a greater 20-3 run for Oklahoma City. The D-Fenders would go down by as much as 21 points with five minutes remaining in the game.

The D-Fenders will continue their road swing against the Salt Lake City Stars at 6 p.m. PT on Monday, Feb. 6, at the Lifetime Activities Center-Bruin Arena.
