D-Fenders Acquire Jamaal Franklin

EL SEGUNDO – The Los Angeles D-Fenders have acquired guard Jamaal Franklin via a successful waiver claim, it was announced today by General Manager Nick Mazzella. In a related move, the D-Fenders have waived guard Naadir Tharpe.

Franklin was selected with the 41st overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2013 NBA Draft. In 21 games for the Grizzlies in 2013-14, Franklin tallied 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 7.7 minutes per game. The Moreno Valley, California native played 16 games for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in 2013-14, averaging 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.8 steals in 28.1 minutes per game. This season, Franklin played 26 games in China for the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions, averaging 28.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 33.8 minutes per game. On November 26, 2014, Franklin scored 53 points, connecting on 19-of-29 attempts in a 120-112 victory for the Lions.

In three seasons at San Diego State University, Franklin recorded 13.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 27.5 minutes per game. The 6’5” guard was voted Mountain West Player of the Year in 2012, after tallying 17.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals in 30.2 minutes per game during his sophomore season.
