Iowa Wolves Defeat the South Bay Lakers, 125-121

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Wolves held off a late rally attempt from the South Bay Lakers in a 125-121 win on Friday night in NBA G League action at Wells Fargo Arena.

Iowa (12-14) stopped a two-game losing streak and claimed the season series over South Bay (17-8). The victory helped the Wolves remain in contention for one of the remaining playoff spots in the Western Conference standings. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Lakers, who are in second place in the West.

Mason Jones led South Bay with 25 points while Mac McClung finished with 23 points and nine assists.

Miller’s three-pointer from the right corner at the 9:53mark in the fourth quarter put Iowa up 99-98. Iowa never relinquished the lead again, but South Bay didn’t go away without a fight despite falling behind by nine points twice. The Lakers pulled back to within three points with 17.1 seconds left but Frazier Jr. made four free throws after, and Wright IV added a pair to help hold off the comeback attempt. Frazier Jr. had 10 points in the final quarter of play.

Iowa started the game with a flurry, scoring the first eight points, with five coming from Frazier Jr. The Lakers made their own run tying the game at 14-all with McClung’s four-point play. The first quarter remained tight as the Wolves led by just one point at the end of the first, 36-35.

Wright sent Iowa into halftime with a 67-65 lead courtesy of a buzzer-beating three that was reviewed and upheld. Miller scored a team-high 16 points while Frazier Jr. had 15. McClung scored a game-high 18 points in the half while Bass chipped in 11 off the bench.
