EL SEGUNDO (27 November 2018) – South Bay Lakers guard Scott Machado was chosen for the 13-man Brazil roster for the November second-round FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers.
Machado is currently in his second season with the South Bay Lakers and has averaged 16.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.6 assists through the team’s first 10 games. The Iona product played in 46 games for the team last season, where he averaged 15.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 8.7 assists, which ranked second in the league.
In the November-December window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers, Brazil will serve as home team at the Poliesportivo Wlamir Marques. The first opponent for Brazil will be the Dominican Republic on November 30. Brazil will host Canada on December 3.
Brazil currently holds the third spot of Group F with a 6-2 record. Meanwhile, Canada has a 7-1 record and the Dominican Republic sits in the fourth position of Group F with a 5-3 record.
The NBA G League’s South Bay Lakers, the first franchise in G League history to be owned by an NBA team (Los Angeles Lakers), will return for its 12th season of competition in 2018-19. The Lakers franchise has established itself as a top producer of NBA-ready talent, totaling 30 NBA Call-Ups and developing 25 Lakers assignment players since the inaugural 2006-07 season. Last season, the Lakers returned to the playoffs for the third year in a row and saw a pair of players receive NBA Call-Ups to the Los Angeles Lakers, including Andre Ingram. The Lakers have claimed three division titles and have twice competed in the NBA G League Finals, most recently in 2015-16.
