With only eight available players, the South Bay Lakers fell to the Oklahoma City Blue, 149-140, on Tuesday night. Talen Horton-Tucker scored 31 points (13-23 FG) to lead the Lakers (10-15) and Reggie Hearn moved to second place on the league’s all-time three-pointers made list. Justin Patton guided the Blue (9-16) to the win with 45 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists.
The two teams were locked in an offensive battle after the first quarter as they finished the first 12 minutes all tied up at 39 apiece. For South Bay, it was Hearn (5-5 3FG) and Travis Wear (4-6 3FG) who led the way as they each scored 15 points in the opening frame. The Lakers grabbed the lead in the second quarter, 77-72, as Zach Norvell Jr. scored 11 points in the period.
Oklahoma City took a big lead into the fourth quarter, 114-98, as Patton scored 15 points in the third frame. South Bay made a run in the fourth quarter behind 13 points from Jordan Caroline and 12 points from Horton-Tucker, but it was not enough to complete the comeback victory.
Patton’s huge night led the home team while Devon Hall also posted a double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Myke Henry finished with 21 points, Kevin Hervey scored 18 and Abdul Gaddy had 11 points as all five starters finished in double figures. Vincent Edwards led the second unit with 18 points and Devaughn Akoon-Purcell recorded 13 points of his own.
Horton-Tucker paced the Lakers with 31 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals and Wear grabbed a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double, good for his second of the season. With his sixth three-pointer of the night, Hearn moved to second place on the league’s all-time three-pointers made list (563) and finished with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists. Norvell Jr. continued his hot streak, tallying 19 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Caroline led the bench unit with 18 points. Andre Ingram (11 points) and Javan Felix (10 points, six assists) also reached double figures for South Bay.
