EL SEGUNDO – The South Bay Lakers have added Gary Payton II to their training camp roster as a returning player, it was announced today by General Manager Nick Mazzella. South Bay originally acquired Payton II’s rights in a draft day trade on October 26th.
In 28 games (all starts) with Capital City and Rio Grande Valley last season, Payton II averaged 16.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 3.0 steals in 30.5 minutes per game and earned an NBA Call-Up to the Washington Wizards on January 21, 2019. The Oregon State product has appeared in 97 career games (82 starts) for Rio Grande Valley, Capital City, Wisconsin and South Bay with career averages of 15.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.3 steals.
