South Bay blows out Blue to advance to Second Round

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (March 31, 2018) – The South Bay Lakers won their first game of the NBA G League Playoffs as they beat the Oklahoma City Blue, 125-105, on Saturday. Scott Machado put his mark on the game with 27 points, eight rebounds and 13 assists to advance the Lakers (1-0) to the second round of the playoffs. Daniel Hamilton tallied an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double, but it wasn’t enough for the Blue (0-1) who were eliminated from the postseason.

South Bay came out firing in the first quarter, hitting 7-12 from three-point range, as Machado and Gary Payton II combined for 23 points to give the Lakers a 40-28 lead. Hamilton did a little bit of everything in the second quarter (four points, five rebounds, three assists) as the Blue pulled a little bit closer, 62-57, at the half. Machado led the Lakers with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists in the first half.

Andre Ingram got going in the third quarter, hitting all four of his triples, with 12 points in the period. Ingram’s shooting led South Bay to a 92-81 lead through three. Thomas Bryant put the finishing touches on the win with 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Hamilton’s all-around play paced Oklahoma City, but the Blue only shot 29.7 percent from three-point range in the loss. Bryce Alford scored a team-high 19 points as Justin Leon and Rashawn Thomas scored 17 points apiece. Dakari Johnson (15 points) and PJ Dozier (14 points, seven rebounds) also finished in double figures for the Blue.

Machado’s near triple-double led the victorious Lakers as Ingram provided a spark off the bench with 24 points on 6-10 shooting from beyond the arc. Travis Wear rejoined South Bay on assignment from Los Angeles with 21 points and fellow assignee Bryant finished with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double. Payton II stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and four steals, while James Southerland also finished in double digits with 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.

South Bay will now travel to take on the Reno Bighorns in the Western Conference Semifinals. The two teams will battle it out on Tuesday, April 3 at 6 p.m. PST from the Reno Events Center on ESPNU.
