South Bay Lakers Announce 2021-22 Schedule

By South Bay Lakers Staff /September 14, 2021

The South Bay Lakers’ complete 2021-22 schedule was announced today. South Bay, beginning their 15th year in the NBA G League and led by Head Coach Miles Simon and two-way players Joel Ayayi and Austin Reaves will open the season at home against the G League Ignite on Friday, November 5.

The NBA G League is implementing an innovative structure for the 2021-22 season, which will include two parts, a 14-game Showcase Cup and a traditional 36-game regular season. The Showcase Cup is a 14-game competition featuring all 29 teams and G League Ignite that will culminate at the NBA G League Winter Showcase with the Showcase Cup Championship Game. Teams will be separated into four regional pods where they will play 12 games against one another in NBA G League markets and the teams with the best-winning percentage in each pod, as well as the four teams with the next-best win-percentage across the league, will go on to play for the Showcase Cup in a single-elimination tournament at the Winter Showcase between Dec. 19-22. The remaining teams that do not qualify for the Championship will each play an additional two games each at the Winter Showcase outside of the tournament format.

Following the Showcase Cup, NBA G League team records will reset and starting Dec. 27th, a traditional 36-game regular season will be played, putting each team’s total games played at 50. The top six teams in each conference will earn a spot in the NBA G League Playoffs.

The Lakers’ schedule features 24 home contests, 12 of which take place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. South Bay takes a six-game, 14-day road trip from Jan. 18-31 and ends the regular season with a six-game homestand from March 20-April 2. The team closes the regular season at home against the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Saturday, April 2.

The health and safety of our fans is our top priority; therefore, the UCLA Health Training Center currently requires all staff and attendees 12 and over to be fully vaccinated for the upcoming season. Children under the age of 12 may provide a negative Covid-19 test result taken within 72 hours of tipoff. Appropriate masks are required to be worn at all times.  Eating and drinking will be permitted in the designated outdoor event area. More information will be made available leading up to the season, as we work with local health authorities to keep our fans safe and healthy.
