South Bay Lakers set Opening Night roster

EL SEGUNDO (2018 Nov 1) – The South Bay Lakers have announced the team’s opening night roster for the 2018-19 season, it was announced today by General Manager Nick Mazzella.

South Bay waived guard Wes Van Beck to finalize the 2018-19 Opening Night roster. South Bay’s roster currently stands at 14 and includes four returning players, two local tryout athletes, two affiliate players, two players acquired through draft-day trades and two players on two-way contracts. Rookies Isaac Bonga and Moritz Wagner are currently on assignment from the Los Angeles Lakers. Wagner will continue his rehab progression while with South Bay.

South Bay will kick off the regular season when they host the Stockton Kings at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, from the UCLA Health Training Center.

The NBA G League’s South Bay Lakers, the first franchise in G League history to be owned by an NBA team (Los Angeles Lakers), will return for its 12th season of competition in 2018-19.  The Lakers franchise has established itself as a top producer of NBA-ready talent, totaling 29 NBA Call-Ups and developing 22 Lakers assignment players since the inaugural 2006-07 season. Last season, the Lakers returned to the playoffs for the third year in a row and saw a pair of players receive NBA Call-Ups to the Los Angeles Lakers, including Andre Ingram. The Lakers have claimed three division titles and have twice competed in the NBA G League Finals, most recently in 2015-16.
