SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (December 8, 2021) — The South Bay Lakers raced out to an early lead and used a red-hot shooting night to defeat the Salt Lake City Stars 139-120 on Wednesday night at Bruin Arena.
Mason Jones led all scoring with 30 points on 9-13 from the floor and 4-5 from behind the three-point line. Paris Bass added 18 points and 12 rebounds and Mac McClung scored 17 points to go with 10 assists for a Lakers team that saw nine players score in double figures.
The Stars were led by Carsen Edwards who scored 27 points while Derrick Alston Jr. and Jared Wilson-Frame added 20 points each.
The Stars struggled to overcome a first quarter avalanche by the Lakers who shot 70.8 percent (17-24 FGA and 7-10 3PA) from the floor on their way to a 44-17 lead heading into the second quarter.
Both teams were neck and neck the rest of the way as the Stars outscored the Lakers 103-95 through the final three quarters, but the first quarter deficit proved to be too much to overcome for Salt Lake City.
The Stars will hit the road to battle the G League Ignite on Monday, Dec 13 and again on Wednesday, Dec 15 at 8 p.m. at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas to close out the NBA G League Showcase Cup tournament play.
