Overtime Thriller Gives South Bay Seventh Straight

The South Bay Lakers (9-3) won their seventh straight game, defeating the NBA G League Ignite (3-11) 115-112 in overtime, on Tuesday night.
Scotty Pippen Jr. led the Lakers with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Jay Huff added 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field.
With Ignite holding a seven-point advantage with a little over six minutes remaining in regulation, The Lakers stormed back using a 7-0 run to tie the game heading into the final four minutes. Down two with a little over a minute remaining, Pooh Jeter of the Ignite drained a three-point shot while Eric Mika drew a loose ball foul on the play. Mika gave Ignite a two-point lead after knocking down the free throw. Pippen Jr., of the Lakers, responded on the next play to tie the game and force overtime.
In a back-and-forth overtime period, Ignite held a three-point, 113-110, with a target score of 114 to claim the victory. Lakers’ Devin Cannady drained a clutch three-pointer to even the score at 113. After a time-out, Ignite was hit with a controversial delay of game penalty due to a shoot clock error which handed the ball over to the Lakers. Pippen Jr., of the Lakers, sealed the game for South Bay on the next play after a game-winning layup to extend the Lakers’ winning streak to seven games.
Ignite’s Cameron Young posted a season-high 29 points and 8 rebounds on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. Young started his night by scoring Ignite’s first 10 points of the game to spark an early lead after the first quarter. Leonard Miller notched his third 20-point game of the season with 23 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Eric Mika tallied his fourth double-double with a season-high 19 points to go along with 11 rebounds and seven assists.
