South Bay Drops Game in Salt Lake

The Salt Lake City Stars claimed a comeback victory to the South Bay Lakers 121-114 tonight at the Maverik Center. The Stars (18-12) will face-off this week against the Austin Spurs (8-22)for the first time this season on a back-to-back homestand, and final two games of the regular season. 

Salt Lake City was led by Tyler Cook, who poured in a game-high 23 points on 10-of-14 (.611) from the field and grabbed nine boards in 36 minutes of play. Isaiah Miller came off the bench to post a career-high 22-point performance, seven rebounds, and four assists. Christian Vital added 21 points to go with six rebounds and five assists. Meanwhile four other Stars players posted double-digits: Elijah Cain (13 points), CJ Elleby (12 points), Stacy Davis (11 points), and Micah Potter (11 points). 

Four players reached the double-digit mark for South Bay, led by LJ Figueroa with 21 points and five rebounds, and two assists. While reserve Javante McCoy contributed 20 points off the bench. LA Lakers two-way player Scotty Pippen Jr. scored 18 points, grabbed six boards, and served four assists. 

The teams exchanged the lead twice in the opening period, before the Stars took an early lead, holding South Bay to 2-8 from three, and ending the period up 26-18. In the second the teams traded the lead three times as both found their rhythms on the court. However, South Bay took the lead to go into the intermission 61-52. The Lakers extended their lead after the half, taking a five-point advantage (93-88). The Stars came back strong and managed to cut the Lakers lead in the final frame. The Stars pulled away in the final stretch to earn the final 7-point victory, 121-114
