South Bay Laker for a Day

The South Bay Lakers kicked off the new year by adopting two local schools, Richmond Street Elementary and Center Street Elementary.

Students from both elementary schools were invited to attend a South Bay Lakers Open Practice at the UCLA Health Training Center as the team prepared to play the Rio Grande Valley Vipers the next day.

During the open practice, the students had an opportunity to participate in Lakers and South Bay Lakers trivia, watch a professional team prepare for a game and interact with their favorite South Bay Lakers players. At the end of practice, students had the opportunity to play knock-out and H-O-R-S-E with several players and even test Javan Felix’s handling skills in a game of keep away.

The Open Practice is the beginning of a yearlong adoption that includes opportunities to interact with the players, educational programming and tickets to South Bay Lakers games throughout the season. South Bay will maintain a frequent presence around both Richmond Street and Center Street Elementary throughout the year with these programs.
