South Bay Lakers Acquire Tremont Waters in Trade with Wisconsin

The South Bay Lakers, the G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers, announced today the team has acquired guard Tremont Waters from the Wisconsin Herd and a 2022 NBA G League second round draft pick (via Agua Caliente) in exchange for guard Frank Mason III and South Bay’s 2022 NBA G League first round draft pick.

Waters (5-10, 175) has appeared in fourteen games (12 starts) for the Herd in the 2021-22 G League regular season, averaging 15.6 points, 6.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 33.5 minutes per game. He led the team in scoring in three of those contests and was the team’s assist leader in 10 games.

The Louisiana State alumnus was selected with the 51st pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics and signed a two-way contract with the team for the 2019-20 season. Waters was named NBA G League Rookie of the Year as he averaged 18.0 points, 7.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 36 games for the Maine Red Claws in the 2019-20 season. The New Haven, Connecticut native made 37 appearances (four starts) for Boston over the course of two seasons, averaging 3.8 points, 2.1 assists and 0.9 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per game.

Waters has earned two NBA call-ups this season; one 10-day contract from the Toronto Raptors on December 23, 2021, and one 10-day contract from the Washington Wizards on January 1, 2022.

Waters will wear jersey number 51 for South Bay.
