South Bay Lakers Defeat Hustle in 127-124 Overtime Slugfest

The Memphis Hustle fell to the South Bay Lakers 127-124 in overtime at Landers Center Wednesday night. The Lakers 16-point lead was erased in a 19-0 run by the Hustle in the fourth quarter, the Lakers fended off the Hustle in a back-and-forth overtime period.

Mason Jones, the NBA G League’s leading scorer, posted a double-double with 32 points (11-26 FG), 12 rebounds and seven assists in a game-high 43 minutes for South Bay. Chaundee Brown Jr. added 29 points, six rebounds and three assists on 11-of-23 shooting. Mac McClung posted a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Shaq Buchanan totaled 29 points, seven assists and five rebounds to lead the Hustle. EJ Onu posted 17 points, eight rebounds and six blocks off the bench. Reggie Hearn added 18 points, five rebounds and six assists. Tyrell Terry added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Cameron Young totaled 15 points, two assists and two rebounds.

The Lakers converted on two free throws to stretch the led to 127-124 with under 10 seconds to play in overtime. Memphis got the ball to Terry on the ensuing in bounds play with a chance to tie the game, but Terry’s contested jumper fell short with South Bay holding for the victory.

South Bay reached their largest lead of the night, 106-90, with 7:56 to play in regulation. However, Memphis responded with a 19-0 run over the next 4:13 to take its first lead since early in the third period. Young scored 10 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to help extend the game. The Hustle led by as many as four points in the final minutes before the Lakers fought back to send the game to overtime.

Memphis outscored South Bay 21-10 in points off turnovers, but the Lakers controlled the glass, outrebounding the Hustle 62-46.
