South Bay Lakers Fan Fest 2024-2025 season

The South Bay Lakers celebrated the upcoming 2024-25 season with a Fan Fest at Edison Elementary School in Torrance, Calif. The event included a health and fitness clinic with more than 100 students participating in basketball drills, skills and dance activities.

The entire South Bay training camp roster, including Jalen Hood-Schifino, Maxwell Lewis, Quincy Olivari and Armel Traoré, accompanied students in the rotations, interacting and spreading their love of the game. Head Coach Zach Guthrie with assistant coaches Alex Cerda, Perry Huang, Barbara Turner and Mo Charlo, along with head video coordinator Josh Townsend, led basketball drills to jersey-adorned students.  The Laker Girls guided students through stretching and dance exercises to promote alternative ways to stay active.

At the conclusion of the clinic, Head Coach Guthrie led a listening activity for the students, in which the winning student, Kyron, helped his classmates win South Bay swag bags. Players remained with students through the end of the event with the hope to inspire a healthy lifestyle and a passion for sports.

“The Fan Fest was a great experience for everyone. The players and staff had a great time,” said Guthrie. “This set the tone for the entire season and our season opener. We’re unbelievably excited to be out here in the community and making a difference at Edison Elementary. This marks the start of our yearlong commitment to Edison. To be a part of the community here, our guys couldn’t be more excited to be part of this.”

Throughout the season, Edison Elementary students will attend South Bay games, seeing the team on the main stage. As part of the yearlong adoption, the Lakers also donated Wilson basketballs and carts and will sponsor a beautification project on the campus.
