South Bay Lakers - Carr Elementary

The South Bay Lakers kicked off the 2023-2024 season with a fun-filled day of basketball and fitness at Carr Elementary in Torrance, California.

Students had an opportunity to participate in a dynamic combination of activities that included a basketball clinic, dance routine, and engaging basketball-themed games. The South Bay Lakers’ coaches Brian Walsh and Willie Freeman joined the basketball clinic, encouraging students to exercise and prepare for a game like the South Bay Lakers players. practicing the fundamentals of the game such as passing, ball handling, shooting, and rebounding. The Laker Girls led a dance and exercise routine where students warmed up their bodies and then learned a short and spunky dance. Finally, students participated in some lighthearted basketball games where they had the opportunity to win South Bay Lakers prizes.

At the end of the clinic, all the students joined the Laker Girls to perform the routine together and then received a South Bay Lakers swag bag to take home. Through a combination of sportsmanship, fun, and a focus on health and fitness, the South Bay Lakers were able to inspire the students while kickstarting their season with a memorable event.

This Basketball, Health, and Fitness Clinic was the beginning of a yearlong South Bay Lakers school adoption that includes opportunities for educational programming, a beautification project, and tickets to South Bay Lakers games throughout the season. South Bay Lakers will maintain a frequent presence around Carr Elementary throughout the year with these programs.
