South Bay Lakers Stomp Santa Cruz

South Bay Lakers beat the Santa cruz Warriors 152 - 118

The South Bay Lakers played their twelfth game of the season against the Santa Cruz Warriors as they won, 152-118, on Sunday night. Javante McCoy and Cole Swider led the Lakers (8-4) in scoring with 23 points each. Patrick Baldwin Jr. paced the Warriors (5-8), scoring 21 points.

The first frame was tightly contested, with both teams trading baskets. South Bay seemed to gain a bit of breathing room before Santa Cruz quickly cut it back down. Jay Huff led the Lakers with nine points and two blocks in the period. South Bay led 36-29 going into the second period. After Santa Cruz cut the deficit to just two midway through the second, a quick 14-2 run from the Lakers got the lead to 14. South Bay didn’t look back from that point, extending their lead and taking an 81-62 into the break. Devin Cannady exploded for 13 points in the period. Moses Moody led the Warriors with 17 in the half.

It was more of the same in the third quarter, as the Lakers continued to score with ease and stack up defensive stops. With six minutes left in the third quarter, South Bay found themselves up 30 points, 97- 67. Huff continued to lead the way with 19 points through three quarters. Patrick Baldwin Jr. was a bright spot for Santa Cruz, totaling 21 points. South Bay led, 115-89, going into the final period.

The Lakers were in cruise control in the final frame, with their lead in no danger of being overtaken. Cole Swider provided a spark in the fourth, scoring 13 points in the quarter. South Bay closed the game out 152-118.

Huff put together a final line of 19 points 10 rebounds and three blocks. Javante McCoy and Cole Swider put up 23 points each while Shaq Harrison contributed 12 points and 12 assists. For the Warriors, Baldwin Jr. and Moody scored 21 and 20 points respectively.

South Bay will travel to Mexico City to take on the Capitanes on Wednesday, February 1 at 5:00pm from the Mexico City Arena.
