South Bay Lakers Suffer Home Loss to Salt Lake City

The South Bay Lakers played in their sixteenth NBA G League regular season game against the Salt Lake City Stars as they lost 123-103 on Saturday night. Jalen Hood-Schifino led the Lakers (10-6), in scoring with 26 points. Isiah Miller paced the Stars (7-10), scoring 22 points.

The Lakers jumped out to an early eight-point lead before behind some hot shooting. By the end of the quarter, the Stars had come back to take the lead behind seven points from center Micah Potter. Louis King led the Lakers with seven of his own. South Bay trailed 23-30 after one.

Salt Lake continued to build on the rhythm they built towards the end of the first frame, opening a 15-point lead halfway through the second. A flurry of Laker turnovers enabled Salt Lake to bolster their lead even more, South Bay trailed going into the second half, 41-70.

The third period consisted mostly of both teams trading buckets. 11 points from Jalen Hood-Schifino in the quarter helped cut down the deficit. South Bay went into the final frame down, 71-88.

The game flow continued the same way for most of the final frame, with the Lakers losing the game, 99-113.

Hood-Schifino put together a final line of 26 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and one block in 34 minutes. Louis King added 15 points, four rebounds and three assists while Quinndary Weatherspoon put up 16 points off the bench. For the Stars, Miller put up 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Taevion Kinsey scored 18 points of his own.

South Bay will face off against the Stockton Kings on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 7:00pm from the UCLA Health Training Center.
