South Bay Lakers Take Double OT Thriller Over Stockton Kings

Stockton, CA– The South Bay Lakers (12-5) took down the Stockton Kings (8-10), 118-112, in double overtime at Stockton Arena on Wednesday afternoon.

Both teams played a competitive first half. Lakers forward Chaundee Brown Jr. led the half with 14 points on 5-6 field-goal shooting. Kings forward Sheldon Mac led the team in scoring at the half with nine points and added five rebounds and two steals. Stockton entered the break trailing 55-40.

Stockton came out strong in the second half, ending the third quarter only down by one. The rest of game went back-and-forth with the two teams trading baskets. The game was tied at the end of regulation, and the largest lead either team had in the fourth quarter was just three points.

Both teams scored six points in the two-minute overtime and a second overtime period was needed. Stockton had a three-point lead with 23.7 seconds left during the first overtime, but Lakers guard Mason Jones was fouled on a 3-point attempt, awarded three free throws and made all of them. During the second overtime, South Bay stepped up and ultimately won the game. South Bay finished shooting .529 percent from the field, .370 percent from three and .824 percent from the free throw line. South Bay’s Mason Jones led his team in scoring with 23 points and added 11 rebounds, eight assists and three steals.

Kings guard DJ Steward and Sheldon Mac each led the team in scoring with 23 points a-piece. Steward added five rebounds and seven assists. Kings guard Matt Coleman III also had a strong game and finished with 17 points and four assists. As a team, the Kings shot .484 percent from the field, .419 percent from three and .625 percent from the free throw line.

The South Bay Lakers will host a rematch with the Stockton Kings this Saturday, February 26, at 5:00 PM PT at the UCLA Health Training Center.
