NBA G League Ignite (3-10) dropped its sixth game in a row against the South Bay Lakers (8-3), 112-106, on Sunday evening in Henderson, Nev.
The Lakers opened the game with two-straight three-pointers, which forced Ignite to call an early timeout in the first two minutes. Ignite would rally to force eight lead changes and trail by five after one. The Lakers went on to take its largest lead of the game, 10, early in the second before Ignite would make things interesting by outscoring the Lakers in the final eight minutes of the first half to take a one-point lead. Abogidi gave Ignite a spark off the beach as he poured in 11 of his 23 points in the first half while also grabbing nine boards in that span.
Even though Ignite held the lead after three quarters, they received three technical fouls in the frame, which would result in an ejection for Pooh Jeter. Jeter, Ignite’s second-leading scorer at the time, finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Ignite seemed to have the momentum on its side en route to its largest lead of the game, 9, early in the fourth. The Lakers would answer with a 16-2 run later in the quarter to take a five-point advantage with a little over three minutes remaining in regulation. The Lakers wouldn’t relinquish the lead to hand Ignite its six-straight loss.
The Lakers were led by Jay Huff and Scotty Pippen Jr., who scored 24 points apiece, while Bryce Hamilton recorded 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Ignite was led by Efe Abogidi who tallied 23 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks and 1 assist on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. Mojave King recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block, while Babacar Sane finished with 13 points and 5 rebounds.
