South Bay Sweeps Salt Lake City for Fifth Straight Win

The South Bay Lakers played their tenth game in a rematch against the Salt Lake City Stars as they won, 141-120, on Thursday night. Jay Huff led the Lakers (7-3) in scoring with 25 points. Frank Jackson paced the Stars (4-7), scoring 33 points.
South Bay was on fire from three-point range early on, hitting five from distance in the opening four minutes of the game, and nine in the quarter. Salt Lake City matched the game’s blistering pace, hitting five three’s of their own. Stars forward Paris Bass exploded for 16 first quarter points. The track meet continued in the second frame with both teams continuing to trade punches. L.J. Figueroa led the Lakers with 10 points in the quarter, while Salt Lake City guard Frank Jackson put up eight to give him 17 through two quarters of play. The Lakers trailed going to halftime, 71-72.
South Bay was finally able to get some separation towards the end of the third quarter behind a 25-12 run to close the period, punctuated by a Scotty Pippen Jr. three to put the Lakers up by 17. Jay Huff led the way for the Lakers in the third with eight points, five rebounds and one blocked shot. Shaq Harrison and Devin Cannady added seven and five points each. Jackson had a strong performance in the third as well, adding 18 points. The Lakers led 107-92 going into the final period.
South Bay carried the momentum they built during the third quarter into the final frame, as they continued to build their lead to as many as 36. Salt Lake City had no answer for the South Bay’s stifling defense as the Lakers turned their 10 turnovers into 21 points in the second half, a half the Lakers won 70-48.
Huff put together a final line of 25 points, twelve rebounds, and four blocks. Figueroa added 20 points and six rebounds, while Devin Cannady contributed 16 points and seven assists. South Bay hit 22 three- point shots during Thursday’s nights game, the most they’ve made in any matchup this season. For the Stars, Jackson put up 33 points, including seven threes. Rawle Alkins and Jeenethan Williams added 14 and 15 points off the bench.
South Bay will travel to Las Vegas for their next game against the G League Ignite on Sunday, December 4 at 6:00pm from the Dollar Loan Center.
