South Bay Takes Round Two Over Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, TEXAS (March 4, 2022) – The South Bay Lakers (13-7), the NBA G League affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers, defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (16-6) on Friday night, 126-100.
Jay Huff was the leader of South Bay with a career-high 27 points and seven rebounds. Los Angeles Lakers Two-Way player Mason Jones added 26 points, four rebounds and six assists. Paris Bass summed up 22 points and seven rebounds. Mac McClung accumulated 21 points, five rebounds and six assists. Tremont Waters came off the bench to contribute 12 points and five assists.
The teams battled early on, but with a 26-26 score early in the second quarter, South Bay went on a 10-0 run and took a 36-26 advantage. The Lakers would go on to score 41 points in the second quarter and send the game into halftime with a 20-point lead, 67-47. South Bay turned up the heat in the third quarter and led by as many as 36 points. Despite the continuous efforts of the Vipers to fight back, South Bay took the victory in convincing fashion, 126-100.
Mfiondu Kabengele led the Vipers with 23 points and nine rebounds. Marcus Foster totaled 21 points, four rebounds and six assists. Marvin Smith hit 13 points. Anthony Lamb was shy of a triple-double with 13 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds.
South Bay will be back in action on Sunday as they take on the Agua Caliente Clippers at 3:00 PM PT at the Toyota Arena. The Vipers return to the court on Tuesday, March 8 as they travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Oklahoma City Blue at Paycom Center.
