Stars Shine in Victory Over Lakers

SALT LAKE CITY (January 14, 2022) — Mason Jones had a career night, but the Salt Lake City Stars (1-2) were red-hot from the field, shooting 53.4 percent, en route to a 135-125 victory over the South Bay Lakers (1-1) on Friday night.

After falling behind by 12 early in the first, the Stars locked-in defensively with deflected passes and blocked shots that led to transition buckets. The Stars took the lead from the Lakers 32-30 to end the first period and never looked back.

Mason Jones led the Lakers with 42 points, 16 rebounds and four assists, including 18 points in the final frame. Jones used a driving layup to give the Lakers momentum and cut the Stars lead to seven with 2:06 left to play.

Cameron Oliver chipped in with 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and Pierre Jackson added 20 points, five rebounds and 10 assists off the bench for the Lakers.

Carsen Edwards led the Stars with 27 points and five assists, Derrick Alston Jr. added 26 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and Jared Wilson-Frame chipped in with 22 points, six rebounds and eight assists for Salt Lake City.
